Two years ago I broke up with my partner as I contracted Herpes 1 from oral sex from him. I was recently tested for STD ( i have not slept with any one since that time, nor had sexual relationships) and the test confirmed I had Herpes 1. The Gp said it was not a sexually transmitted disease unless I had a open sore on the genitals and that this type does not shed and so I am really confused. If I started another relationship what should I tell them? Do I have an STD?
Thank you for query.Herpes simplex virus (HSV1 and 2) can spread by oral or kiss or by skin to skin contact or sexual route. The chances are more when there are active lesions.there are chances that you would have got it earlier in your life through any of these modes .It is likely you have got from the partner from oral sex.Sometimes even asymptomatic individuals are also found and they have antibodies detected which indicate past infection even in childhood due to kiss/contact from adults.you can decide about the disclosure to your new partner. You can get back to me for any clarifications .Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist
