Is Hepatitis-C Infection Contagious?

My spouse was diagnosed with Hep C and has an appointment with his primary care physician tomorrow to discuss the diagnosis and refer him to a specialist. I am going with him to be informed buth want to know how you get Hep C and if I should be checked for it as well. I do not know how you get it.

The hepatitis C infection is a blood borne viral infection and the most common modes of infection are through unsafe injection practices, inadequate sterilization of medical equipment, and the transfusion of unscreened blood and blood products. However, nowadays most people become infected with the Hepatitis C virus by sharing needles or other equipment to inject drugs and transmission of Hepatitis C infection through sexual route is infrequent. So, if you had used same needle as your partner, i would advise you to have yourself tested for HCV infection.
