hi my son had chemotherapy 2years ago he is haveing terrible pain in his back tooth the dentist told him today he would need a root canal or possibly an extraction but first he must get a letter from his consultant or worse go to hospital to have it done what are the risks why is the dentist so afraid to go near the tooth my son is in agony and scared
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
I would like to know for what problem your son went for a chemotherapy 2 years back & has the problem being cured fully. Normally there should not be any risk related to root canal treatment of any tooth post chemotherapy. However for extraction of tooth blood tests for clotting time, bleeding time etc may be needed. The dental surgeon must be concerned about the previous illness of your son & therefore he has told you to get permission from his doctor. This is intended to prevent any medical emergency in dental clinic I would suggest you to undergo root canal treatment if tooth could be saved. It should not cause any problems according to me.
Refer to a dental surgeon Hope this information helps
