Is Having Adenoids And Tonsils Removed A Good Idea For Chronic Cough?

Is having adnoids and tonsils removed a good idea for a cronic cough. My almost 4 year old daughter has had a cronic cough for 10 months now. She also has cronic post nasal drip. We have tried allergy Rx and OTC meds. Her MD also rxd astma inhaiers. The daily control inhailers seems to cause a cough and doesn't seem to reduce coughing episodes. The rescue inhailer seems to help stop a coughing jag within a few hours. I'm not sure what to do. Her MD seems to think that removing her tonsils (very inlarged) and adnoids may help. Are there any other alternatives to try first?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain chronic cough and post nasal drip seems to be due to allergic reaction and most common factors can be dust, pollen, animal danders etc..
Other cause of it can be Sinusitis..
If her adenoid and tonsils are swollen it can be due to post nasal drip causing infection and inflammation so it is not the exact treatment to get Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy done and exact cause of the cough and post nasal drip needs to be ruled out so that treatment can be planned accordingly..
You need to consult an ENT Surgeon and get evaluated and thorough examination and investigations like allergic tests like RAST test, PATCH test etc can be done along with PNS view of sinuses, chest x Ray and Laryngoscopy etc depending upon suspected cause and treatment can be planned accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
