Is Giddiness Related To Diffuse Cerebral Atrophy And Tortuous Vertebral Artery And How Long Will It Take To Recover?

Sir,My father is aged 63 years.10 days back he got giddiness there was no vomit or nausea.Now he says he is under fear that he may fall down during walk,and is lethargic,how ever he walks inside home.He has hypothyroidism and hypertension. We checked with Neurotologist. His ears are found normal. Then he was asked to go for an MRI of brain and inner ear. My father MRI report says diffuse cerebral atrophy, tortuous vertebral artery,inner ears are normal.What should i do next.
1)Are these symptoms associated with cerebral atrophy.
2)How many days it may take to recover?

Kindly advice sir.

Hi. At the age of 65 , the MRI would show cerebral atrophy as a normal finding as he is old and also suffering from hypertension and hypothyroidism. Tortuous vertebral artery can be again a normal finding with this. Was it showing reduced blood flow? You may please go for color doppler study of the neck arteries. Continue with medicines as guided by neurologist. It is good that ENT is ok. These symptoms may not be due to cerebral atrophy. With the factors of age and medical problems it may take 3 days to 3 weeks. All old patients are afraid of a fall with a history of giddiness. And he should not walk alone as a precautionary measure. Bed rest is a must.
