Is Getting HIV Test Once After Unprotected Sex Enough?

Doctor Im female. I had unprotected sex twice on the 10th and 20th of Feb 2013. Two weeks after I suffered from flu like symptoms. I went to the hospital and found out that I got the flue virus. On July 23th ( almost 5 months after the last exposure) I got a blood and urine teats for hiv and other stds. The results came back negative. Is one hiv antibody test enough? Or do I need to retest again. Does flue delay antibodies to show up? I also had a hepititas vaccination one year and 3 months before the last exposure. Is there any possibility that vaccination caused hiv antibodies from showing up??plz answer me. I couldnt sleep

Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
The period from infection to the primary seroconversion illness (acute HIV infection) is three to eight weeks but the signs and symptoms are similar to those produced by some other diseases. The period from infection to development of anti-HIV antibodies is three weeks to three months. If you tested negative 5 months following exposure, the chances that you are infected are minimal. Hepatitis vaccination would not delay the production of antibodies against HIV. You really do not need to worry so much. Another test is not necessary but if you have the means, you can do Nucleic Acid Amplification testing which looks for the presence of HIV in blood.

I hope that answers your query. If you have more questions or any follow up query do not hesitate to write to us.
I wish you well

Since you have tested negative after the max window period of 3 months , so this is enough in your case. Hep B vaccination does not affect the result of the test
