Is Genetic Testing Required If Birth Defects Are Detected During Pregnancy?
hello doctor, i am 25 yrs old and my husband is 30 yrs old. we got married a year and a half ago. my first baby was an anancaphelus foetus which doctor asked me to abort in the end of 5th month after detection. my 2nd baby had a delay in growth which was aborted in 2 and half months as it did not have hearth beat. doctor has advised me to take the genetic testing to be done for me and my husband is it safe? we are no way relatives...
Thanks for putting your query up at HealthCareMagic. I am sorry that you have a bad obstetric history where the previous pregnancies had some problem or other with respect to the foetus. During pregnancy the embyo that is conceived gets its genetic material from either of its parents. If any one of them (or both) have some genetic defect, chances are that the defect may make the embryo defective or abnormal. It is therefore advisable to get a genetic testing done for both of you. It is a safe and simple test wherein simple blood samples would be collected from both of you, and tested for the chromosomal or genetic make up. No need to worry about it. Just get it done.
I hope that helps. Feel free to revert back in case of further queries if any.
