Is Fluttering In Lower Abdomen, pain And Breast Soreness A Sign Of Pre-menopause Or Its Due To Pregnancy?

I am 40 yrs old. My first day of last period was Jan 13th. It laster 3 days and it was unusually light(didn't soak one pad). On the first day there was almost no bleeding, but severe pain (took Motrin). For the next two days it was significantly less pain and very light bleeding. I have taken home pregnancy test about 7 days prior to my period and result was negative. My husband and I have had intercourse 14 days before my period and we do not use any protection, but simple withdral method. At this time, I feel slight and daily fluttering in my lower abdomen. Also, bit of pain (ovulation like pain) and breast soarness...My periods are always on time (28 days) and last 5 days with 2 first days being quite heavy and so on. Ovulation is never right after my period and it is quite strong pain. I am not sure what this tells me so I would like to know if this is maybe a sign of pre-menopause or am I just plain pregnant?

Hi,
The fact that you had unprotected intercourse two weeks prior to your period means that you were in the fertile period and the chances of conception are indeed high. Added to this, the light period you had causes suspicion. Home pregnancy tests do not read before a period is due; they are best read 3-7 days after a missed period with a fresh early morning sample. You can either repeat the test or go for the assessment of the serum beta-hCG titres to clarify the situation. A trans-vaginal sonogram would be an added help. Hope this helps.
