Is Fits Attack During Pregnancy Harmful For Mother And Child?

Hi Doctors, I am Raj, my wife is now 5 and half months pregnant , day before yesterday at 4-30 pm she was sleeping with me and I was watching TV. Suddenly, her two hands and mouth attacks like similarly “FITZ” for 2 mints and 1 mint she was unconscious. Afterwards , 10 mints she become normally and rushed to hospital. This is first time attack for my wife in her life. Doctors have taken Brian MRI scan and giving GARDINAL 60mg (1 tab at night) and advised to continue till 1 year. There is no genetic for my wife except for her father brother. After Brian MRI, neurologic doctor is telling that there is small “periprelly “ seen in brain and feature suggestive, likely neurocysticercal. Sir is there any serious harm to my wife life and baby due to fitz attack during pregnancy and after taking this tablet at night she sleep more and is there any harm by taking this tablets at this pergency time. Kindly advice.

Hello Mr. Raj,
Untreated convulsions can harm both the mother and the baby, be it whatever the reason behind them. Gardenal is not safe in pregnancy. It is a category D drug and has been shown to cause fetal malformations. It is to be used only if absolutely necessary. Neurocysticercosis is an infective condition of the brain caused by the parasite Taenia solium or tapeworm. There is both medical and surgical management available based on the condition and response. Please check with your consultant and work in conjunction with a neurophysician or surgeon. Hope this helps.
