Hello. My question is, well im not sure if its a question or something i just need a little help trying to understand. My LMP was 04/08/2010 my periods are on a regular schedule they fall between the 6th and the 8th. took a pregnancy test thursday 5/13 and the result was negative. i went to the emergency room because i was having pains while when i urinated. it had only been happening the past week. Found out it was an acute UTI they gave me some anti-biotics and also did a urine pregnancy test on me which was negative. Back in October 2008 i was pregnant but the pregnancy was diagnosed as ectopic and of course was removed. Leaving me with one fallopian tube connected to my right ovary. Since then my chances of becoming pregnant have been very slim. So having missed my period this month and TTC kind of got my hopes up. The nurse said for me to wait a few days and take another test. I took another test today but the line was so faint im not sure if its poss. What should i do to be sure
With a history of ectopic pregnancy in the past, faint (weak) pregnancy test is not a good sign. Such pregnancy test can be weak positive in following conditions:
1. Ectopic pregnancy where the pregnancy is implanted somewhere outside the uterine cavity - more commonly in the tube. You have once gone through this experience. The pregnancy subsequently ruptures causing bleeding emergency requiring emergency surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion.
2. Recent abortion
3. If the test is done too early.
Please get ultrasonography done. If the uterine cavity is empty in spite of (weak) positive pregnancy test, it indicates ectopic pregnancy. Missed abortion may show non-viable baby.
Ectopic pregnancy if detected before rupture can be treated conservatively with medicines like Methotrexate.
Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP.
I hope you got the warning signal.
