Is Excessive Sleepiness A Symptoms Of Lewy Bodies Dementia?
My husband has a probable diagnosis of Lewy Bodies Dementia. Lately he has been sleeping most of the day -- today he went to sleep right after breakfast and has been sleeping since 9 am, getting up for a short lunch and again about 4 hrs. later to take his meds, but he doesn t want to get out of bed. When he wakes he asks for me and says I m alive. or I m not dead . When asked what he wants he says Sleep . Is this a usual symptom of LBD or do you think there is something else going on?
hello user, i understand your concerns . "Yes" such kind of fragmented sleep and day time sleepiness like symptoms can be commonly seen in lewy body dementia , as is fluctuating cognition and alertness along with REM sleep behavioural disorder ( like acting out on dreams while asleep) - however the role of any coexistent physical illness and medications need evaluation from neurologist - some medications like melatonin / ramelteon can help such patients to some extent . hope i answered your query - if satisfied please rate the answer
