Is Doubling The Dosage Of Metoprolol Safe?

i am told by the doctor whom I saw yesterday to increase my Metoprolol from 2 pills to 4 pills daily and take all 4 pills after breakfast (100mg to 200mg daily). I was taking 2 pills (50 mg/ea) daily for years - one in the morning and one in the evening. Your opinion please!
