Is Difficulty In Bowel Movement After Undergoing Plyeloplasty Normal?

Hi! - my son (aged 12 years) has just had pyeloplasty. We are living in Spain (moved here 4 months ago)
He had the operation last Thursday (17th Nov) and was discharged from hospital yesterday.
When we got home, he said that he needed to poo (sorry not a very medical term) and then spent quite a long time straining to go.......much to my horror....but he was insisting that the poo was 'half-out'
This turned out to not be the case and after a somewhat distressing hour or so, I persuaded him to 'wait until tomorrow' (today)
Today I bought at the chemist (on their recommendation) something called aciete de parafin - literally translates as paraffin oil - which the pharmacist ensured me was a mild and gentle laxative.
Is this ok to give to him at bedtime as per the instructions (he's had a history of kidney problems but hopefully once the stent is removed in a month or so, all will be sorted)
