Is Delayed Follicular Growth Related To PCOS And Thyroid Disorder?

Hi doc, I am 31 years old female. Im married since 1 yr and 1 month now and plan to prepare for pregnancy now. I have hypothyroidism since i was 24 years (presently well under control with 100 mg thyrox daily). I was diagnosed with mild symtoms of pcod and since then corective action for my weight was taken. The contraceptive pills (yasmin/yaz) helped in pcos as per my doc. My weight is 72.4 kgs and height is 5.5 feet. Menstrual cycle has been normal (28-30 days) even after i stopper contraceptive pills in jan 2016. Presently, on day 11 of my cycle right side follicle size was 12.4 mm and on day 14 it was 13.8mm. My doc advised that the growth is slow. I would like to know what is the way forward and why the follicle growth is slow? Is it related to thryroid issue or pcos? Is this common or is it because of my age? Awaiting your reply! Thanks in advance

Hello
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Both hypothyroidism and PCOS can cause hormonal imbalance, resulting in slow follicular growth. Although slow follicular growth is uncommon in young females but the incidence increased over a decade due to unhealthy lifestyles and hormonal imbalance. In addition to that it must be clear that it different women have different levels of follicular growth normally. Being overweight is an addition to the list of problems, keep in mind hormonal imbalance can lead to PCOS and PCOS can lead to overweight making it a vicious circle. Fertility treatments surely helps in the current scenario but after the baby try getting help from a nutrition expert to eat healthy and involve in a physical activity to lose weight thereby taking a positive step in controlling the hormonal imbalance.
Thank you.
