I have been taking Copaxone for about seven weeks and suddenly experiencing constipation. Side effects do not mention constipation. I drink about five glasses of 8oz. water and include vegetables in my meals. Is constipation a side effect from this drug.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Hope you used copaxone for multiple sclerosis
Copaxone is used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS) and to prevent relapse of MS.
Constipation is common in MS.
Cause of bowel impairments in MS patients is usually either a reduced gut motility or an impairment in neurological control of defecation.
Sometime it could be due to medication used for it.
I would suggest to consult your doctor for examination and cut down dose or use in lower dose.
Continue to drink plenty of water
Take syrup lactulose three times a day
Tablet bisacodyl at bed time
If not responds then glycerin enema can be used
Do regular exercise
Drink warm water with added honey before bowel movement
Hope this may help you

Contact further if follow up needed
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
