Is Compression Fracture Possible In A Person With Spinal Osteoporosis?

I have a patient with spinal osteoporosis of -3.2. She was told by her other doctor not to pick up her grandson who is 30# b/c she could get a fracture. I thought lifting weights is good for the bones. Is there any evidence that the amount of weight carried can cause a compression fracture ? she s never had a fracture. she is 72 yr old. your thoughts?

Hi thanks for posting on hcm.
Usually lifting weights doesn't causr compression fracture but in your friend's case pre existing osteoporosis aggravtaed the risk and lifting weights caused pressure on spine which led to the fracture. Osteoporosis leads to pathological fractures as in your friend's case.
Hope this could be of help to you.
Regards
