Is Cold Pack Advisable For Swelling And Bruising On The Shin?

Dr. I had a block of wood hit my shin a week ago, should I use heat or cold on the bruise. Also I was concerned because I take a blood thinner called eliquis. I am experiencing some swelling and tender to the touch in my leg. Thank You Sterling Beane

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
For the injury what you have sustained over the shin, kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Clean the area with antiseptic solution like Povidine-iodine thrice daily.
2. Apply cold pack to reduce the swelling.
3. Take Tablet. Diclofenac with Serratiopeptidase twice daily after food to decrease pain as well as swelling.
4. Keep the wound clean and healthy and prevent it from getting infected.
Gradually, you should be relieved from the symptoms.
