Is Bruising And Swelling In Hand Due To Fracture?

I hit my forearm yesterday, it turned red and was swollen with in minutes. It hurts when touched today, it never bruised but hurts like it is. The swelling is not bad today. Could it be fractured? I don t have health insurance so I don t know if I should spend the money to get it checked out, or if it s just bruised under the skin and it will be fine soon.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In most cases, with a fracture , the swelling would be persistent but this can vary.

If it is difficult to see someone immediately, you can consider using anti inflammatory pain medication and observing for 24 hours or less (depending on if pain increases or swelling recurs).

Eg of anti inflammatory medication would be naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen

The forearm should be rested as much as possible.

I hope this helps
