Is Blood Test Required For Thyroid?

Hi,

Iam a 54 years old have a under active thyroid but for the last several months I have been taking 5mg Lisinopil my GP wants me to have my bloods done but I am really worried not having the test just the results is there any reassurances you could give me

I read your concern and understood your query.
Actually you are being treated only for hypertension and are not taking levothyroxine for under active thyroid (you didn't mention the reason).
I would recommend you to check the thyroid hormone levels (TSH,FT4 and FT3) and than start treatment depending on the result.
It is not to recommended to start treatment for under active thyroid without checking the hormonal level and after starting treatment you should recheck the TSH after 6 weeks in order to see if the dose is the right one.
