Is Blood In Stools Related To Colon Cancer?

This morning I noticed some bright pink blood on the toilet paper, didn't notice any in the bowl so I figured I'd see what the next bowel movement looked like. My next bowel movement looked normal except I noticed a red streak on the side of my bowel movement, and a little bit more blood on the toilet paper. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac and am really nervous it could be colon cancer, although I keep reading its probably an anal fissure or hemorrhoid, but I've never had either of them before. I'm a 27 year old male, have really bad insurance and can't afford going to see a doctor if it just sounds like a hemorrhoid or anal fissure, so thats why I'm resorting to this first.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
First of all you should know that blood in stools or toilet paper is a very common symptom. Up to 15% of adults have seen blood on their toilet paper.
As a general rule, bright red blood means that the bleeding has come from the area around the anus. If the blood is darker, it usually means that its origin is a bleed higher up the digestive tract.
Bleeding can be due to following reasons
1. Hemorrhoids( piles) is most common reason. They are swollen blood vessels in the rectum or anus.
2.Anal fissures is second common reason. It is a tear in intestine sometimes caused due to hard stool passage
3.Infection of intestines can also cause blood in stools
4.Rarely it might be colon cancer

First of all you should increase fibers in diet, they would help you prevent haemorrhoids or anal fissures. Alternatively a laxative could also be used.

If problem persists, you should visit a Gastroenterologist

Don't worry you would be fine
Hoping your query is solved.
