Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Benign Nodules With Elevated Crp A Sign Of Cardiovascular Disease?
47 yr old post menopausal female with hla-b27 and ankylosing spondylosis and colitis. Recent cat scan shows a 16 mm lung nodule to be a epicardio fat pad but has grown 12 mm since last cat scan October 2013 . Recent blood work shows crp of 6.6 and sed rate of 44 . Also ct from October 2013 shows 4 small calcium nodules above the pancreatic head thought to be vascular. Neither my family physician nor my rheumatologist have addressed this as a whole and offered me any satisfactory explanation other than nodules are benign with elevated crp and sed rate and 16 mm fat pad and four others thought to be vascular above my pancreatic head does any of is indicate cardiovascular disease or is the fat pad normal? If so why did it grow so fast? Is the elevated crp and sed just from the ankylosing and colitis? Just trying to piece together the pieces. Thank you .
Thanks for the query. It is highly unlikely that the pancreatic issue has to do with the heart. The elevated CRP and sed rate are likely a reflection of the inflammation caused by both the ankylosing spondilitis and the colitis.
The nodules need to be followed with serial imaging to ensure no progression.
Hope this helps, wish you the best,
