Is Azithromycin Used For Vaginal Infection Or STD Like Herpes?

My wife just had a visit to her gynecologist for vaginal swelling and her skin is slightly pealing on her vagina. Her Doctor took a swab and prescribed her Azithromycin 250 mg doses for 5 days. Her first day was a 500 mg dose. Her doctor said that she had a bacterial vaginal infection but never said it was a sexually transmitted disease according to my wife. Is Azithromycin used for bacteria vaginal infections other than a sexually transmitted disease? And could it be a sexually transmitted disease that is dormant in my wife or I that we just keep passing back and forth to each other? I have never been diagnosed with anything but my wife contracted herpes before we met.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Tablet Azithromycin in the dose prescribed to you is not for any STD. Tablet Azithromycin is indicated many other bacterial infections other than STDs.
So it is possible that your physician could have given this treatment for something other than STD.
