Is Aqauphor Ointment Effective In Preventing Or Minimizing Stitch Associated Scar Mark?

Hi, on January 3rd, I had gotten a mole removed from the top left side of my forehead through the excision with stitches procedure. My question is by putting Aqauphor ointment on the stitches and even afterwards would it prevent from a reaaly deep scar or even come out with a minimal scar. My stitches are about 3/4 inch? Thank you

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Aquaphor is a petrolatum based Ointment. It contains mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol.

Like Vaseline, it is an effective treatment for minor cuts, scrapes, burns and dry and cracked skin.

Aquaphor is a healing ointment and as such does'nt have any role in scar formation OR remodeling.

I advice my patients to apply a tretinoin based cream to reduce the appearance of a stitch site scar.

take care
