Is Anxiety Normal Having Been Diagnosed With Multinodular Goitre?

I have been diagnosed with a multi nodular goitre. and 2 large nodules left 5.5cm right 4.3cm. aspriation showed all was fine, doctor advises removal but i am not really having a major problem with my breathing only slight anxiety around menstral cycle. I would rather find a way of shinking these as they have both grown by 2 cm in the last year and i have been under lots of stress in the last year so maybe there is a link, What advice would you give me. regards Maria

Hello and thanks for your query.

You are right in thinking that there is a link between your thyroid problem and your anxiety symptoms. Hyperthyroidism is well know to be a cause or aggravating factor for anxiety symptoms.

So, this is why you may be noticing a worsening of your anxiety with enlargement of your thyroid nodules. I would suggest that you consult an endocrinologist to have your thyroid functions checked and plan for treatment of the same. Once your thyroid functions normalize, the anxiety symptoms should subside.

Best wishes.
