Is Alcohol Consumption Safe While Suffering From Temporal Arteritis?

My brother has just been advised that he has Temporal Arteritis - he is a heavy drinker and not fit - Is there any website to go to indicate he should STOP drinking? I am sure this will have an effect on the medications he will now need to go on for the next year to two years. Any direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

Do take medication [corticosteroids and aspirin]as per your treating doctor's advice.

Do modify lifestyle like this -

1)Try to eat a healthy diet. Eating well can help prevent potential problems, such as thinning bones, high blood pressure and diabetes. Emphasize fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats and fish, while limiting salt, sugar and alcohol. Be sure to get adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D.

2)Do exercise regularly. Regular aerobic exercise, such as walking, can help prevent bone loss, high blood pressure and diabetes. It also benefits your heart and lungs.

Hope that helps
