Is Alchohol Intake Safe When Using Nidagel Vaginal Cream?

I was prescribed Nidagel Vaginal cream and I am just wondering if drinking alcohol will I actually have side effect? This is just a cream and I have taken other antibiotics that advise no alcohol consumption but was fine when I had a few drinks. Also after 24 hours of not using the cream will it be fully out of my system (will I be able to drink or use any other drugs)

No, it is not OK to drink while using Nidagel, a brand name for metronidazole. Unlike other antibiotics, metronidazole is derived from antabuse, a medication made to cause alcoholics to become violently ill if they drink. It is out of your system in 24 hours. Blood level are lower with creams than with pills, but this is not a med to mix with alcohol in any amount.
Like most doctors, I tell patients not to mix meds with alchohol. It can effect how well they work, how rapidly they are metabolized and rarely, as in the case of metronidazole, can cause life threatening side effects.
