Is A Surgery Advisable For An Enlarged Thymus?

I am a 44 year old female, and I have been diagnosed with an enlarged thymus but I m asymptomatic. Other than the scan that found this (from an unrelated incident) I have had no other tests. Today a cardiothoracic surgeon recommended removal. Is this surgery really necessary even though I have no symptoms?
