Is A Piercing Pain At The Back Of The Head, Anything Serious?

I am having sharp piercing pain in the upper back part of my head about every 30 seconds. This has been going on for about 8 hours. Not sure what it is or if I should go to the emergency room. I do have mild pain in my neck but mainly pain is in that particular spot on my head.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
This sounds like ice pick headaches which are related to migraines
They can be treated with propranolol if necessary.

That said, any new headaches require an exam and possibly an MRI of the brain so you need to see a doctor about this
