Is Zoloft Better Than Ativan For Treatment Of Anxiety?

I am currently taking Ativan. The prescribed dosage is 2mg up to 3 times daily. I have been on this medication for over 15 years. I do not take the maximum dosage. At most, I take 1.5 mg per day, mainly at night. I am trying to compare Ativan to Zoloft with the thought of perhaps switching to Zoloft. The Ativan is taken to treat General Anxiety disorder as well as Obsessive Compulsive Diroder and possible ADHD. I am wondering if the Zoloft would be a better alternative to the Ativan, after being on the medication for such a long period of time.

There is no clear answer since the effect of these medicines depen from man to man and each of these may be beneficial for different persons so you should see alone which one is better working. Zoloft is for people who are continually anxious, and is a more permanent solution to the problem. It regulates the serotonin in the brain. If you are taking Ativan every day, then you should seek something like Zoloft. Ativan is a "bandaid" which means it temporarily makes you better, and is good for people with occasionally high anxiety.
