Hello,
cefuroxime (
zinnat) and other cephalosporins are potent antibiotics, usually active against
streptococcus. I've used the word "usually" because streptococcus susceptibility to any specific antibiotic may depend upon various factors. I'll mention some of the most important.
How was it transmitted to you? If you got a streptococcus from a person with recurrent streptococcal infections it is likely that this streptococcus is not very sensitive to common antibiotics.
Have you had recurrent infections yourself? Have you use antibiotics during the last 3-4 months?
If you've answered "yes" to any of the above questions then the result of zinnat cannot be foreseen.
I would suggest consulting your doctor, because some symptoms that may look similar to you, may not be attributed to bacteria. Most cases of
pharyngitis are caused by viruses and antibiotic treatment may only do harm.
You can contact me again, if you'd like more details, or if you want to ask for clarifications.
I hope you'll find my answer helpful!
Kind Regards!
