Is UVB More Preferable In Comparison To PUVA For Mycosis Fungoides In A 15 Years Old Child?
hi,my son has recently diagnosed with mycosis fungoides, he is 15 years old..he is advised for treatment with PUVA....my question is....is narroww band UVB may be instead of PUVA as i read about side effects of PUVA and about preference of UVB over PUVA.... thank you
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic, Both PUVA and NBUVB are effective in treating early mycosis fungoides. A few studies have showed a marginal increase in efficacy for PUVA compared to NBUVB. If proper precautions are taken it is safe under supervision of an experienced doctor. You should know that you need three times a week visits for NBUVB whereas for PUVA only twice a week and NBUVB is costlier than PUVA. The decision depends on the above logistics and comfort and experience in either of the two in the doctor treating him. Both works. Hope this helped, Take care.
