Is Tetanus Advisable For An Injury In A Child With G6PD Deficiency?
My kid is 5 years old and we have given all the vaccines which are required till the age. He got injured in his leg today by a broken legs. Do we need to give tetanus injection to him. And the most imp is he is a G6PD Deficiency kid. Please suugest immediately.
Hi & Welcome. Yes, tetanus toxoid can be given safely in a child with G6PD deficiency. There's no study which has reported any adverse effects with the administration of tetanus toxoid or any other vaccinations to G6PD deficient patients. Since you child has completed the primary immunization & now sustained injury in the form of broken legs, he needs a single booster dose of tetanus toxoid vaccine. Hope this answers your query.
