Is Propafenone A Safe Medicine For The Treatment Of Heart Arrhythmia?

I recently went to the hospital with heart arythmia. One of the drugs is propafenone. I am taking 150 mg twice a day. I had an appt. with a dr. and he said I should be taking this every 8 hrs. or 3 times. How safe is this for a female 72 yrs. of age?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Propafenone is a drug indicated in the treatment of heart arrhythmias. I wish to find out the type of heart arrhythmia she has. For the immediate release form, an initial dose of 150 mg to be taken every 8 hours is usually prescribed. If the doctor asked you to pass to 150 mg every 8 hours after evaluating her, then it is ok. It is quite safe. However, I will recommend regular medical evaluation and if need be, dose adjustments can be made.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
