Is Plan B Advisable Post Unprotected Sex While On Orthotricyclin Active Pills?

I take orthotricyclin regularly. This past week I took my placebo pills after skipping the last cycle of placebos, and instead of starting my next cycle after the 7th day, I did it on the 8th. I had unprotected sex on the second day of the active pill, but I m concerned. Should I take plan b to be safe?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Ortho tri-cyclen is a combination of ethinyl estradiol and nirgestimate that is used as contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy.
It prevents ovulation and changes in cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperms to reach uterus and fertilised egg to be implanted.
Even though you have skipped placebos, as you have started it again, there is no necessity to take Plan B.
Make sure you don't skip any pill henceforth.
All the best.
