Is Pantoprazole Effective In The Treatment Of GERD?

I have taken omeprazole 20 mg for GERD. I now have osteoporosis and have had a broken foot 2 yrs. ago. Wanting to stop omeprazole I have taken Zantac 300mg for 3 wks and it is not lasting a 24 hr. period. My Dr. suggests pantoprazole delayed release 40 mg. Is this not a proton pump inhibitor ( PPI) just as omeprazole? I am trying to protect my bones.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, it is a proton pump inhibitor like the omeprazole, they are in the same family of medication.

You can consider trying pepcid to see if it works for you

I hope this helps
