Is Ofloxacin And Ornidazole Suspension Safe For A Baby?
How safe is ofloxacin+ornidazole suspension for 3 months old baby? My baby is suffering from looser than normal stools 3-4 times a day since last three weeks. Had completed a course of 5 days of antibiotics (Cefixime) as advised by the pediatrician. Now the stool examination shows many pus cells and few RBCs, suggestive of infection. Stool culture report is expected in a day or two. Should I start Oflox+ornidazole or wait for culture.

Firstly I would like to tell you that oflox-ornidazole is safe for babies. But I were your family doctor I would have waited for culture reports because
1 three to four times stools in a 3 months old baby is not abnormal
2 normally babies at this age have softer stools
3 some time a course of antibiotics (cefixime) also causes looser stools (this will be fine once antibiotics is stopped.
4 baby with infection in intestine would have got fever too (fever is not there)
5 few pus cells and rbc in stools are not so significant.
So wait for culture report and then give oflox-ornidazole solution if required (if culture is positive and sensitive for it)
