Is Ofloxacin And Omidazole Safe For Abdominal Pain With Loose Motion?
My son is 12 years old. with 50 kg weight. He had pain in abdomen and frequent loose motion 6-7 times a day. He was admistered Oflaxacin 100 mg twice a day for 3 days. He became apparently cured for 3 days. The symptoms have repeated , now doctor said O2H ( Oflaxacin 100 mg + omidazole 250 ) twice a day. Is the medicine and dose OK ?
Hi... I feel that you kid is going through a bacillary diarrhea as viral diarrhea is very uncommon in this age group. If I were your pediatrician rather than using a combination antibiotic like this I would prefer using Cefixime at 200mg twice a day for 5 days. This is a prescription drug and I suggest you see a pediatrician regarding this.
I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).
Regarding diet - Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.
