Is Nitrofurantoin Mono The Right Medicine For UTI?

I was told several weeks ago I had a UTI. I was at the ER and they sent me home with a 7 day script of NITROFURANTOIN MONO 100 MG. Took them and still had the pain. Went to ER again, same thing except they gave MECEFDINIR 300 MG capsules. Look them up and I m scared to take them because of the side effects.My pain is in the top of my stomach like a knife cutting me. Makes me sick. 3 weeks. I am a male 66 years old.

Hi, I think you should go for a urine culture and sensitivity test. Then take the antibiotics according to the culture reports. Discuss with your doctor regarding this. Drink around 3 to 4 litres of water per day and take some urine alkaliser like syrup alkasol.
