Is Metronidazole Effective In Treatment For Amoebiasis?

Hi! I just finished a 5-day course of metronidazole (750mg TID) for amoebiasis. My recent stool exam result no longer showed any cyst or trophozoite but there were 5-10 RBCs/hpf. Do I still need to take a luminal amoebecide just to make sure that the disease will not relapse?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. In comparison with Metronidazole Tinidazole is more effective for the management of amoebiasis ,it can successfully cleared all protozoa from your stool. The obvious advantage of Tinidazole administration is that it should permit more effective treatment of these parasites. You may continue your treatment by taking tinidazole for 5 days more till normal stool analysis.
