Is Metoprolol Succinate Same As Metoprolol Tartrate?

My husband sees his heart Dr every 3 months. He went yesterday & forgot to tell her he was taking a new med, prescriped by our family Dr., Metoprolol Succ ER 25 mg, 1 daily. The heart Dr told my husband she wanted him to take a new med. We just picked it up from the pharmacy, it is Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg, 1 daily. Are these 2 drugs badically the same? Should he take both of them or just the one the heart Dr prescriped? Thank you.

hi
metoropol has two pharmacological preparation(metoprolol succinate and metoprolol tartrate) for the same effect.
however,Metoprolol tartrate an immediate-release tablet, while metoprolol succinate is an extended-release tablet. Extended release means the drug releases into your body slowly.
it is better to take only what doctor has prescribed.
