Is MRI Advisable For The Inverted And Sunken Nipple In Women?

Q I m a 56 year old African American / Mexican female about two years ago I noticed my left nipple was slightly inverted and itchy and had a mammogram that thankfully showed nothing . The nurse kept telling me I must not have noticed that I had a slightly inverted nipple . I assured her that if there s anything that I m sure of is it was always out not inward . This week I was getting ready to shower and noticed that the nipple has sunk even further and it won t come out . Should I ask for an MRI or am I just overreacting maybe this is normal? My maternal GM has had a breast removed because of breast cancer my aunt and recently my other aunt just had a breast removed . I also lost a first cousin to overian cancer she was 40 years old .

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned but the inversion of the nipple itself is not an indicator of cancer.

You should have annual mammograms especially with a family history of breast cancer. If you had a recent study within the last year and it was completely normal then it is not likely that the inversion is concerning.

If there is no recent study then one should be done.

I hope this helps
