Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Lorazepam The Right Medicine For Anxiety And Depression?
My husband is considering asking our Dr about taking Lorazepam as a friend of his takes it and recommended it for anxiety and depression. My husband does have sleep apnea and slight asthma, using an inhaler as needed. He had an alcohol addiction but has been sober 20 years. He also has a niece that is bi-polar. After reading about this medication, I m wondering if this a good fit for him.
Hi, i have gone through your question and I can understand your concerns. Lorazepam is benzodiazepine group of medicine ,these are basically sedatives and anxiolytics but not for depression. As your husband is also experiencing sleep apnea than its not a good option for him to have lorazepam as these are sedatives and sleep apnea patients have breathing problems so sedatives can do respiratory depression. SSRIs group of medicine will help. I suggest you to take him to your physician and your physician will decide after looking into his medical records. Hope I have answered your queston. If you have any query feel free to ask. Wish your husband good health.
