Is Levoxyl The Right Medicine For Hypothyroidism And Chest Tightness?

I am having a very heavy period and passing very large golf ball size clots. I have hypothyroidism and very high blood cholesterol above 370. I have been experiencing some tightness in my chest when I take a deep breath like a pulling feeling. I am treated with levoxyl and small dose of statin 10 mg. I typically have heavy periods at the start of my cycle but this cycle is very heavy and I do not remember especially large clots like I have observed. Thanks kelly

Hello Kelly,

hypothyroidism is treated with drugs like levoxyl but you need to check your TSH and free T4 levels every so often (6-12 months depending on current levels). Your cholesterol level is very high and perhaps you should discuss it with your doctor. A higher statin dose or a second drug might be needed, although your HDL and triglyceride values are also needed for a complete assessment.

Heavy bleeding needs investigation by your gynecologist. This is not related to the rest of your problems.

Finally, chest tightness can be caused by various conditions, including some serious ones like coronary events, pulmonary embolism, asthma etc. Clinical examination and laboratory testing will be helpful to determine the cause. You haven't provided enough data for me to form an adequate differential diagnosis, so I can't comment any further.

If you'd like a more detailed approach, please provide more information about your symptoms and I'll be glad to help.

Kind Regards!
