Is Levemir Given For Hyperglycemia And Type 1 Diabetes?

Hyperglycemia...Hi, I am a recently diagnosed Type 1 diabetic (6 months) and I am experiencing a long, frustrating state of Hyperglycemia. For about a month now I can t get my numbers down. My honeymoon phase lasted about the first two months, then I had been on a regime of .10 of levemir am and again in pm which was working very well. If anything I had to be careful to not get hypoglycemic if I was late eating. Under this previous dosage, I ate 3 carbs per meal usually and would have 1/2 - 1 carb in snacks. Now I am eating about 3-4 carbs per day and taking .17 of Levemir in the AM and again in the PM. I have taken doses of the novalog to try to get under 300 a few times..with the lowest I have been all month was 196. My AM fasting readings are about 220 on avg, my 30 day BG avg is 276. The Metphormin doesn t help much either. I have checked my keytones, they are slightly elevated on and off. Not sure what else to try...I don t understand why, between reduced carbs and almost double the insulin, my numbers won t come down. (same reading on 3 different meters and have made sure clean test site)...loosing weight again, serious thirst and constant headache, plus fatigue) - any suggestions? (by the way..37 yr old female)

Dear ma'm, hi! welcome to HCM. type 1 diabetes is a challenge.
i have few suggestions which you can implement after consulting your doctor.
1. please change levemir to degludec , once a day bed time insulin. dose may be around 26 units to begin with.
2. please take aspart (novolog) with each meal, may be 10 with breakfast, 14 with lunch, and 14 with dinner.
3. follow a strict dietary pattern.
4. exercise regularly.
