Is Isoprinosine Recommended For Shingles?

I read about taking isoprinosin for shingles. The pharmacist didn t recognize the name, nor did the doc. Can you tell me if it would be helpful, if so, under what name would it be found, and how it compares to Acyclovir, (which is what the doc prescribed)?

Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Both the drugs, Isoprinosine and Acyclovir are antiviral, that can be used for treating shingles. Their active principle though is different. I don't know your location, in order to tell you the trade marks of Isoprinosine, and if there is available in your country.
If I were your treating doctor, I would definitely prefer Acyclovir, as it has shown quite better feedback from the treated patients.
Acyclovir is the first line treating choice of treatment of shingles. It was shown in different studies that is superior to all other antivirals for treating shingles.

Hope I answered to your question.

Take Care,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
