Is Horizant Effective In The Treatment Of Restless Leg Syndrome?

Is and how effective is Horizant in treating restless leg symptoms? Ive tried many medications and none have been effective. I tried Horizant a few months ago and wonder if I should try again. It made me sleepy and ineffective during the day. Disappointed --- did not expect a charge

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry to know you've to live with restless leg syndrome.

Horizant is the brand name for generic Gabapentin enacarbil. It is a patent medication, not the same as gabapentin.
Unfortunately, its use is associated with drowsiness, sleepiness, blurred vision, etc.

This is a prescription drug, so you need to get it prescribed by your neurologist to start taking it.

If side effects will affect your daily activities, should change therapy.
I'd also recommend to schedule physical therapy seances as you can get profit of them.

Wish fast recovery.
