Is HIV Possible Through Anal Sex?

Dear Sir

I am a 30 year old married man. I am having a good married life so far and had a 3 years old boy. Due to some incident, I am very worried, not getting correct solution. As I gone different website for the information, it is also making me confused. Following are the incident.

Incident No-1

I had an anal sex before 10 years back in a hostel by a senior at ragging period. I do not know his HIV status. After that I do not do any HIV test. Before 5 years , I got married and when my wife was pregnant before 3 years back , the HIV test was done {Chemi luminescent microparticle immuno assay (CMIA) method form Dr. Lal bal Delhi} and it was non reactive(negative),

Incident No-2

One year back I went to a saloon and got my beard shaved. I have seen that he changed the blade and used new blade during the shave I had a visible cut in my check then the barber used alum (FITKIRI) to stop the blood. I do not know weather any blood was there in alum (FITKIRI) or not. From that day I was very worried and thinking that I was infected by HIV.

Then after 14 days I done Elisa test . It was non reactive. After 5 months after that incident form Max hospital and it was non reactive . Then again 6 months after that incident form Dr Lal Lab{Chemi luminescent microparticle immuno assay (CMIA) method} it was also Non reactive.

Then again after 8 months after that incident , I have done the test form SRL(Private lab) lab by Elisa method and it was also non reactive .Then some web site says that it is better to do the test form govt. hospital. So I did the HIV test 8 months after that incident form ICTC (rapid method)centre and it was non reactive.

Incident No-3

At 8 months while doing the testing of that ICTC centre for HIV the needle was use to take the blood was not seen by me weather it is per used or not. I had doubt (may be unnecessary or may be I am not correct). So i asked that nurse weather it is perused or not. She replied that they do not use any perused syringes/needle even ICTC centre can not use any used needle.

To convince me I had done HIV test after 3 moths after this incident form ICTC (rapid method)centre as well as from SRL(Private lab) by ELISA and it was non reactive.(total 11 months after the barber incident).

As I was very restless I did again test for HIV after 4 months after this incident (needle exposure) form ICTC (rapid method) centre and it was also Non reactive.

How ever I have gone through different web site specially NDTV Doctor and was convinced, But one of your expert says that test should to done after one year from the exposure and 3—6 months may not conclude that some body is HIV free. It also said that always to go PCR test to have the accurate result.

My questions are.

1) From the 1st incident, is there any change that I can be infected latter on?

2) The test I have mentioned, is not correct or authentic?

3) Should 3-6 months are not sufficient to confirm that I am free form the infection?

4) If PCR test only the authentic then why other test method are there? Why NACO has kept Rapid kit?

5) Should I require PCR test?

6) Should I not rely on the test I have mentioned?

Sir, I am really confused, not getting correct direction.

Pl help.

Hello
Answers, question wise .
1 Ten years back you faced a tough situation but any how, you didn't got HIV infection due to that incident . If you were a patient of HIV infection from that incident , you would have been developed many symptoms of HIV.
2 The tests , you mentioned are correct , so need not to worry.
3 Antibodies to HIV begins to appear within 2 weeks ( TWO WEEKS ) of infection and period of time between initial infection and the development of detectable antibodies is RARELY MORE THAN 3 MONTHS ( > 3 months).
It means 3-6 months is a sufficient time .
4 PCR ( this is most commonly done in research settings ). These ( PCR ) tests are useful in patients witha positive or indeterminate enzyme immunoassay ( ELISA ) and an Western blot ( indeterminate ).
5 You don't require any PCR
6 You can rely on all these tests , you got.
Hope I have answered your question . Further any question you are free to ask.
