Is Duloxetine The Same As Paxil?

Hi back in 2004 I tried to commit suicide, and I was hospitalized and am fine now. I now live in Jacksonville with my 88 year old mother. She had a stroke in 2014 and has dementia now and needs me. I rented my condo and took early retirement and am her caregiver. I thought I was taking Paxil but I am taking Duloxetine 60mg 1x daily. Is this similiar to Paxil?

1. I read your query and I am happy to help you. You mentioned that you are taking Duloxetine instead of Paxil.
2. Both medicines helps as an antidepressant but in different classes.
3. Paxil is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). helps in depression anxiety etc.
4. Duloxetine is Serotonin- norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) helps in depression anxiety and in nerve pain and chronic muscle and joint pain.
5. I suggest you to tale Duloxetine only if u have muscle and joint pains along with depression and anxiety. If you had only depression and anxiety then Paxil is enough.
