Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am currently a US resident living in Malawi for a year. I was taking Mefloquine but it made me very on edge. Last week I went to the local doctor and he gave Deltaprim is this recommended? He believes it would be a better fit for me. Is it bad for the kidneys?
Welcome to HCM and thank you for the query. Deltaprim is a combination of Dapsone and pyrimethamine. These drugs are not known to produce any kidney damage. This medicine is well tolerated but may occasionally cause side effects in some people. Side effects include blood disorders, rashes, gastrointestinal upset, headache, and psychiatric disturbances. If you have further queries for me, I am available on HCM web site. Wish you good health. Dr. Noble Zachariah
