Is Clindamycin Advisable For Foul Odour From Nasal Cavity While Treating Sinusitis?

I recently had all of my top teeth extracted and had immediate dentures. During the extraction of one of my molars, the dentist discovered I had 3 roots and one was grown into the sinus cavity. The dentist left the root in and sutured the gum. Four days after the procedure, my sinus became infected. I went back to dentist and he prescribed amoxicillin. After three days I began to smell an extremely foul odor in my nose. The dentist put me on clindomyacin 300mg, Q six hrs. Should I seek further treatment?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you have aspiration of a root piece into the sinus cavity then one thing that I would like to tell you clearly is that you will have to get the root piece removed from the sinus as it will serve as a source of continuous infection and inflammation and the intake of antibiotics will not alone be sufficient..

Bad smell from nostril is due to worsening of infection in the sinuses..
I would suggest you to as of now continue taking antibiotics and also do saline nasal irrigations, steam inhalations an also take decongestant nasal sprays..

But you need to consult an ENT surgeon soon and get evaluated and he can do an x ray or MRI scan of sinuses and look for the location of the root piece and remove it either through the extraction socket or by surgical removal of the sinus depending upon the location of root piece in the sinuses..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
